The Foundation of Greater Montréal Awards $980,000 to McGill University Health Centre
Montréal, November 14, 2013 – The Foundation of Greater Montreal (FGM) announced a gift of $980,000 to the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This gift will support research in heart disease; in vascular surgery; and in the field of gynecological oncology, especially the origin and transmission of ovarian cancer.
“Through this gift, the donor directly supports the mission of Royal Victoria Hospital. He wants his gift to have a real impact and wants to contribute to long term health of the Greater Montreal community. Like many others, the donor has chosen to entrust the FGM while retaining the ability to direct his grants” commented Yvan Gauthier, President and CEO of the FGM.
This announcement was made during the event organized by the FGM for Philanthropy Day to which over 250 guests participated at Place Ville-Marie.
A panel of guests discussed their vision on the future of philanthropy in Greater Montreal with Dominique Asselin, President and Founder, L’Académie du trésor; Simon Brault, CEO of the National Theatre School of Canada, President of Culture Montréal and Vice-Chair Canada Council for the Arts; Brian Bronfman, President, Brian Bronfman Foundation, President, Peace Grantmakers Network; Gabriel Bran Lopez, Founder and Executive Director, Youth Fusion, Co-founder, FIRST Robotics Quebec and Mrs. Luce Moreau, Executive Director, YWCA. « This event was a great success both in terms of discussions and participation. The results of this day already committed us again for next year. » commented Mr. Gauthier.
