Vital Signs Forum: Why is it important to give children a voice?

In celebration of World Children’s Day, the Foundation of Greater Montréal (FGM) held the Forum on November 20 2017 to reaffirm children’s right to be heard and encourage young people’s increased participation in finding sustainable solutions for our cities. Throughout the day, the young and old alike will spoke about the priorities children shared during the research process of Vital Signs 2017:  belonging, education, mobility and mental health.
On this occasion, young attendees presented Montréal Mayor Valérie Plante with two reports: Montréal as Desired by Children, which is a compilation of comments by children aged 5 to 17, collected during the “Grande Tournée,” a tour of the boroughs as part of Montréal’s 375th celebrations, and Living in Montréal in the 21st century: perspectives from young montrealers, a report on the listening process used to identify the primary challenges children face in Greater Montréal, which are presented in its 2017 Vital Signs report.
