Montreal, June 15, 2012 – The Foundation of Greater Montreal (FGM)
held its annual benefit event at the Marché Bonsecours on June 13th. Under the Honorary Presidency of Marcel Côté, founder of SECOR and outgoing board member of the FGM, the FGM benefit event gathered some big names in the business world to pay tribute to Louis Vachon, President and CEO of la Banque Nationale.
The benefit event, attended by more than 400 guests, raised over $160,000 net. The funds collected will allow the FGM to pursue its mission to support local community initiatives aimed at the well-being of the community.
The evening’s presenters included: Diane Vachon, his sister, Jean Turmel, one of Mr. Vachon’s first employers, Lynn Jeanniot, Executive Vice-President, Human Resources and Corporate Affairs, André Bérard, mentor, and long-time friend, Jacques Chartrand.
« Following the success of last year’s event, a roast of Marcel Côté, who retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the FGM, we wanted to use the same concept this year. Benefit events are so numerous, and it is important as a charity to develop an event that is aligned to its mission. We designed the event to be a  benefit/roast evening which brings together business people to honour an engaged person in the community and bring to light our own realisations and accomplishments; this unifying formula  adheres well to our mission,» says Marina Boulos, President and CEO of the FGM. « Louis Vachon is very involved in the community and we wanted to recognize his contributions and accomplishments. He seemed to us to be an ideal candidate for this second annual event. We are honoured that he accepted, and more than satisfied with the overall results,» added the President and CEO.
A Brand New Board of Directors
Preceding the benefit event, the FGM held its Annual General Meeting. The following members were nominated to the Board of Directors : Alice Herscovitch, Executive Director, Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, geneviève bich, Vice-president – People and Culture, Aimia Canada, Jean Camerlain, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Centraide, Jean-Guy Gourdeau, Founding Partner, Solstice, Monique Jérôme-Forget, Special Advisor, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, and Roland Lescure, Executive Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer, Caisse de dépôt et de placement du Québec.
The FGM wishes to thank the following past members for their long and devoted commitment: Armand Afilalo, Gilles Émond, Harry Feldman, John Gallop, Bernard Lamarre, Claire Richer Leduc, and Marcel Côté who completed his last  2 years as Past Chairman of the Board.
